Weather Watch: Convective Rain Persists While Temperatures Soar on November 3, 2025

Recent Rainfall Recap: Convective Showers Begin
The region is currently influenced by westerly winds. has led to the registration of convective rain (வெப்ப சழண மழை) since yesterday across South India, especially in Tamil Nadu & AP.
Rainfall recorded includes significant measurements in districts like Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, and Vellore:
- Tiruvannamalai: Nambiyampattu recorded 43.6 mm, S.V. Nagaram 42.8 mm, Pushpagiri 38 mm, and Periya Kozhappalur 36.4 mm.
- Ranipet: Mambakkam saw 36.8 mm, Mechery 32.8 mm, and Kalavai 11.2 mm.
- Vellore: Udagathur recorded 35.2 mm and Sekkanoor 21.6 mm.
- Other areas, including parts of Viluppuram and Kanchipuram, also recorded rainfall.
- While Chennai did not see widespread heavy rain, some rain was recorded in parts of North Chennai.
Significantly, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts are currently experiencing excess rainfall, while Viluppuram is near normal.
The November Heat Anomaly
Despite being November, we are currently facing high temperatures—an unusual situation.
Maximum temperatures are expected to be significantly higher than the seasonal norm today.
- Central and Western Districts: Areas including Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Trichy, Coimbatore (both east and west parts), Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Kovilpatti, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, and Nellai are likely to register 3 to 5 degrees above normal. Maximum temperatures here could reach between 37°C and 38.5°C.
- North Interior Tamil Nadu (including Chennai): Most parts may see temperatures 2 to 4 degrees above normal.
- Coastal Regions: Chennai, Cuddalore, Puducherry, and the lower Delta districts are forecast to experience highs between 35°C and 36.3°C.
Today's Rain Forecast (November 3rd)
Today, conditions allow for light to moderate rain across several districts in Tamil Nadu.
Areas where light to moderate rain is possible include:
- Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram, Puducherry, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Kallakurichi, and Tirupattur.
- The southern districts of Theni, Madurai, and Kanyakumari also have opportunities for light to moderate rain.
Important Note: There are currently no chances for heavy (கனமழை) or very heavy (அதிகனமழை) rain in Tamil Nadu. Other districts will generally experience dry weather.
Neighboring State Forecast
Outside of Tamil Nadu, weather activity is also expected:
- Kerala: Light rain is expected across most districts.
- Karnataka: Moderate rain is forecast for Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, Ballari, and the Kalyana Karnataka regions. Some interior areas like Karavalli may see light rain.
- Andhra Pradesh: Moderate rain is likely in Tirupati, Nellore, Kavali, Bapatla, Guntur, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, YSR Kadapa, and Annamayya districts. Lighter rain is expected from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada, Prakasam, Palnadu, Satya Sai, and Chittoor districts.
- Telangana: Moderate rain is possible in Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Vanaparthy, Jangaon, and Narayanpet districts. Widespread light to moderate rain is expected in other districts, including Hyderabad.
Looking Ahead
In the coming days, the impact of the convective rainfall is expected to gradually increase in the interior districts till october 10th.
Looking toward mid-November, we anticipate changes in wind patterns. The shift to easterly winds is expected around the 10th, potentially fully establishing itself in Tamil Nadu by the 11th.
