Weather Update: New Low Pressure Area Developing Near Andaman - October 24, 2025
Good morning and welcome to today's crucial weather update.
Important Note: This post reflects our personal weather assessment based on current models. For official weather forecasts and information, please follow the announcements made by the Indian Meteorological Research Centre and government-affiliated sources.
Focus on Formation: A Low Pressure Area is Imminent
Today, October 24, 2025, attention is focused on the formation of a significant system in the Bay of Bengal.
The depression previously stabilized over the Arabian Sea has moved. Concurrently, a trough structure (known as "தாளி அமைப்பு" in Tamil) that had moved inland via interior Tamil Nadu and merged with the low-pressure area has now lifted. This system is currently an upper-air atmospheric circulation. This trough is now moving southeast of Sri Lanka, over the Bay of Bengal.
Crucially, this trough structure is anticipated to form a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) within the next 24 hours. Weather models predict that this LPA will then move in a west-northwesterly direction.
Currently, there is some uncertainty regarding the system's strengthening, as there are two circulations involved, and it is unclear which one will dominate. However, the determination of the genesis point is expected today, which will clarify the future path and intensification.
A Climatological Insight: It is important to remember that based on climatological patterns, during the month of October, major disturbances are less likely to affect Tamil Nadu. Systems during this period, usually until the first week of November, tend to move towards Southern Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. After the first week of November, there is a greater probability that subsequent systems will affect Tamil Nadu.
