Weather Update: The Eastern Wind Returns – Will the Northeast Monsoon Revive? (December 15, 2025)
Good Morning! Today’s weather forecast focuses on a temporary shift in the ongoing Northeast Monsoon (NEM), which has been in a state of stagnation or lull (தொய்வு நிலை). We are tracking the return of the Eastern wind (கிழக்கு திசை காற்று) moving from the Bay of Bengal regions back towards Tamil Nadu.
The Two-Day Window
This incoming Eastern wind is expected to bring a round of rainfall lasting approximately two days (a "சுற்றுமழை") before conditions are likely to return toward a state of lull.
The wind is anticipated to start impacting the Tamil Nadu coastline beginning this evening and tonight. Rain is predicted to commence in some areas tomorrow morning (December 16).
Where Will the Rain Fall?
The Eastern wind is expected to provide good rainfall, though generally not characterized as heavy rain. The event is projected to deliver two to three days of reasonably good rain.
Key Areas Expected to Receive Good Rain (Delta and Southern Districts):
- Mayiladuthurai
- Nagai
- Karaikal
- Thiruvarur
- Thoothukudi
- Tirunelveli
Areas Expected to Receive Moderate Rain:
- Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, and Cuddalore.
- Pondicherry is also expected to receive moderate rain, potentially slightly better than the districts listed above.
- Ramnad and Rameswaram might experience light or moderate rain early tomorrow morning.
Inland districts will start seeing the effects of the rain after the forenoon tomorrow, as the Remnant Moistures moves inland from the coastal areas. However, the forecast indicates that districts like Thanjavur, Madurai, Trichy, Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, and Ooty will generally receive only moderate rain and not major downpours. The reduced impact of the Westerly wind (மேற்கு திசை காற்று) means that significant rainfall is not largely expected during this event.
Temperature Outlook
The arrival of the Eastern wind and the associated rainfall are expected to influence temperatures in the region.
For the next two to three days, the minimum temperature in Tamil Nadu is likely to remain around normal (இயல்பை ஒட்டி). We may see temperatures that were previously around 15–17 degrees Celsius increase slightly.
- Coastal Districts: Minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 21 degrees Celsius, which is considered normal.
- Inland Districts: Many areas may see minimum temperatures register about 1 degree lower than normal.
- Other Regions: Areas like Hosur, Krishnagiri, Bengaluru, Kerala, and Karnataka are predicted to experience temperatures 1 to 3 degrees below their normal minimum.
Broader Weather Patterns
While the focus remains on Tamil Nadu, other weather events are occurring globally:
- Western Disturbance: Western disturbances originating from countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran, and Iraq are increasing rain and snowfall activity (பனிப்பொழிவு) in the Jammu and Kashmir regions.
- North India Cold: Minimum temperatures across North India have dropped significantly, registering in single digits. Regions like Ladakh and parts of Jammu & Kashmir are recording lows reaching -1 to -5 degrees Celsius.
- High Pressure: A high-pressure system (உயரழுத்தம்) currently exists over Central India, extending from Andhra Pradesh down to North Tamil Nadu.
Although satellite images show rainfall clouds over the Bay of Bengal near Tamil Nadu, these clouds are not currently very dense. However, the monsoon is active in the Southern Hemisphere.

வணக்கம்! இன்று நாம் பார்க்கவிருப்பது, கிட்டத்தட்ட ஒரு தொய்வு நிலையில் (தொய்வு நிலை) இருக்கக்கூடிய வடகிழக்கு பருவமழையில் ஏற்படவிருக்கும் தற்காலிக மாற்றத்தைப் பற்றியது. வங்கக்கடல் பகுதிகளிலிலிருந்து கிழக்கு திசை காற்று (கிழக்கு திசை காற்று) மீண்டும் தமிழகத்தை நோக்கி வரத் தொடங்கியுள்ளது.
## அடுத்த இரண்டு நாட்கள்
இந்தக் கிழக்கு திசை காற்று தமிழகத்தில் நீடிக்கக்கூடிய ஒரு "சுற்றுமழையாக" (சுற்றுமழையாக) இருப்பதற்கு வாய்ப்புகள் அதிகம் இருக்கும். எனினும், இந்த இரண்டு நாட்கள் நீடித்த பிறகு, மழை மீண்டும் தொய்வு நிலையை நோக்கியே செல்ல வாய்ப்புள்ளது.

* சென்னை, செங்கல்பட்டு, காஞ்சிபுரம், திருவள்ளூர், மற்றும் கடலூர் மாவட்டங்களுக்கு ஓரளவுக்கு மிதமான மழையே இருக்கும்.
* பாண்டிச்சேரியில் கூட ஓரளவுக்கு நல்ல மழை இருக்கும்.
* ராமநாதபுரம் மற்றும் ராமேஸ்வரம் பகுதிகளில் நாளை விடியற்காலையில் ஒரு சில இடங்களில் லேசான மழை அல்லது மிதமான மழையை எதிர்பார்க்கலாம்.

கிழக்கு திசை காற்றின் வருகை மற்றும் மழை காரணமாக குறைந்தபட்ச வெப்பநிலை தமிழகத்தில் அடுத்த இரண்டு மூன்று நாட்களுக்கு இயல்பை ஒட்டி (இயல்பை ஒட்டி) இருப்பதற்கு வாய்ப்புகள் இருக்கும். இதற்கு முன்பு உட்புற மாவட்டங்களில் நீடித்த 15 முதல் 17 டிகிரி இருந்த வெப்பநிலை சற்று அதிகரிப்பதற்கான வாய்ப்புகள் இருக்கும்.
* **கடலோர மாவட்டங்கள்:** பெரும்பாலும் இயல்பை ஒட்டிய வெப்பநிலையே நிலவும்; குறைந்தபட்ச வெப்பநிலை 21/23 டிகிரி வரையிலும் பதிவாகும்.
* **உட்புற மாவட்டங்கள்:** பெரும்பாலான பகுதிகளில் இயல்பை விட 1 டிகிரி வரையிலும் குறைந்து காணப்படுவதற்கு வாய்ப்புகள் இருக்கலாம்.
* ஓசூர், கிருஷ்ணகிரி, பெங்களூரு மற்றும் கேரள கர்நாடக பகுதிகளில் ஒன்று முதல் 3 டிகிரி வரையிலும் இயல்பை விட குறைந்து காணப்படும்.
## பிற முக்கிய வானிலை நிகழ்வுகள்
வட இந்தியப் பகுதிகளில் குறைந்தபட்ச வெப்பநிலையானது சிங்கிள் டிஜிட்ல (சிங்கிள் டிஜிட்ல) பதிவாக ஆரம்பித்துள்ளது. லடாக் பகுதிகள் மற்றும் ஜம்மு காஷ்மீர் பகுதிகளில் -1 முதல் -5 டிகிரி வரையும் வெப்பநிலை செல்கிறது. சவுதி அரேபியா, பாகிஸ்தான், ஈரான், ஈராக் போன்ற பகுதிகளில் இருந்து வரக்கூடிய மேற்கத்திய கழக்கம், ஜம்மு காஷ்மீர் பகுதிகளில் மழையையும் பனிப்பொழிவையும் (பணிப்பொழிவையும்) அதிகரித்திருக்கிறது.
மத்திய இந்தியப் பகுதிகளில் ஆந்திரா முதல் வடதமிழகம் வரையிலும் உயரழுத்தம் (உயரழுத்தம்) நீடிக்கிறது. தென்சீனா கடல் பகுதிகளில் இருந்து வரக்கூடிய கிழக்கு திசை காற்று, தமிழகத்தை ஒட்டிய வங்கக்கடல் பகுதிகள் வரையிலும் மழை மேகங்களாக இருந்தாலும், அந்த அளவுக்கு அடர்த்தியான மழை மேகங்களை நாம் பார்க்க முடியவில்லை. அதேநேரத்தில், தென் துருவப் பகுதிகளில் (சதன் ஹெமிஸ்பியர்ல) மான்சூன் ஆக்டிவாக (மான்சூன் ஆக்டிவா இருக்கு) இருக்கிறது.
