Eastern Winds Return: Rain Expected in Delta and South Tamil Nadu (December 9, 2025 Forecast)
Welcome! Drawing on the weather analysis for today, December 9, 2025, we see a clear distinction in weather patterns across South India. While northern regions grapple with dry air, the Delta and Southern parts of Tamil Nadu are poised for rainfall.
The North-South Weather Divide
Across the northern half of Tamil Nadu, dry conditions are prevailing. This is due to a high-pressure system moving from Pakistan towards central Indian regions, pushing dry winds—referred to as Continental Dry Air—southward. This dry, parched air has entirely occupied North Tamil Nadu.
As a result, minimum temperatures are remaining cool, generally registering around 21 to 22 degrees Celsius in many areas, while northern inland districts are seeing even colder temperatures, hovering around 13 to 14 degrees Celsius. This dry weather is expected to continue for North Tamil Nadu, with minimal changes anticipated. Even in Chennai, the forecast suggests only a light chance of rain in a few lucky areas & Expected Return of Rains around 15th Dec to 18th.
Rain Forecast for Delta and South Tamil Nadu
In contrast to the dry North, the Delta and South Tamil Nadu regions are expected to receive moisture. This moisture is being carried by the returning Eastern winds (கிழக்கு திசை காற்று). The proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) near the equatorial region, coupled with these Weak Trough Influenced Eastern winds, increases the likelihood of rain today and tomorrow. It is worth noting that the last 24 hours saw minimal rainfall across the region, with only 2 to 3 millimeters recorded as a maximum in one location in Madurai and one location in the Delta area.
For the next 24 hours (ending tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM), we can anticipate widespread chances of rain:
In Kerala:
- Moderate to heavy rain is expected in the Idukki district.
- Light rain is forecast for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Thrissur. Other parts of Kerala are likely to experience dry weather.
In Tamil Nadu and Karaikal:
- Areas expected to receive moderate to heavy rain in some parts include: the coastal regions of Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Karaikal, Tiruvarur, coastal Thanjavur, coastal Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Rameswaram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Theni districts.
- Light or moderate rain is also likely in interior central and southern districts, including Puducherry, parts of Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Theni, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Dindigul, Karur, Namakkal, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Madurai.
Immediate and Future Outlook
For residents in coastal areas, specifically Nagai Town, Karaikal, and the Keezha Vedaranyam area, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain within the next 30 minutes to one hour.
Looking ahead, after this current spell of rain in Delta and South Tamil Nadu concludes, there will be a break in precipitation. ## டெல்டா மற்றும் தென் தமிழகத்தில் மழை வாய்ப்பு
வட தமிழகத்திற்கு நேர் மாறாக, தென் தமிழகப் பகுதிகளில் மழைக்கான வாய்ப்புகள் இன்று மற்றும் நாளையும் உள்ளன.
இந்த மழைக்கான காரணம், கிழக்கு திசை காற்று மீண்டும் வீசத் தொடங்கியுள்ளதுதான். மேலும், வெப்ப குவிதல் பகுதியான ஐடிசிzட் (Intra Tropical Convergence Zone) நிலநடுக்கோட்டு பகுதியை ஒட்டி நிலவுகிறது. இலங்கை ஒட்டியபகுதிகளில் நிலவும் வலிமை குறைந்த தாழி அமைப்பு சார்ந்து வீசும் கிழக்கு திசை காற்று , டெல்டா மற்றும் தென்தமிழகத்துக்கு மழைக்கான வாய்ப்புகள் இன்றும் நாளையும் உருவாக்கி இருக்கிறது.
முந்தைய 24 மணி நேரத்தில் பெரிய அளவுக்கான மழை பதிவாகவில்லை. அதிகபட்சமாக மதுரையிலும் டெல்டாவிலும் தலா ஒரு இடத்தில் மட்டும் 2 மில்லிமீட்டர் முதல் 3 மில்லிமீட்டர் மழைதான் பதிவாகி இருந்தது.

கடலூர் மாவட்டத்தின் கடலோர பகுதிகள், மயிலாடுதுறை, நாகை, **காரைக்கால்**, திருவாரூர், தஞ்சையின் கடலோர பகுதிகள், புதுக்கோட்டையின் கடலோர பகுதிகள், சிவகங்கை, ராமநாதபுரம், ராமேஸ்வரம், தூத்துக்குடி, திருநெல்வேலி மற்றும் தேனி மாவட்டத்தில மிதமானது முதல் கனமழை ஒரு சில பகுதிகளல் பதிவாகும்.
**தமிழகத்தில் லேசான/மிதமான மழை வாய்ப்புள்ள பகுதிகள்:**
பாண்டிச்சேரி, விழுப்புரத்தின் உட்புற பகுதிகள், கள்ளக்குறிச்சி, திருச்சிராப்பள்ளி, புதுக்கோட்டை, சிவகங்கை, விருதுநகர், தேனி, நாகர்கோவில், கன்னியாகுமரி, திண்டுக்கல், கரூர், நாமக்கல், சேலம், ஈரோடு, திருப்பூர், கோவை மற்றும் நீலகிரி மாவட்டங்கள், **மதுரை** உட்பட ஒரு சில பகுதிகள்ல் மட்டும் லேசான மழை அல்லது மிதமான மழை பதிவாகறதுக்கு வாய்ப்புகள் இருக்கும்.
### உடனடி எச்சரிக்கை மற்றும் எதிர்கால பார்வை
இன்னும் அடுத்த ஒரு சில மணிநேரங்களில் (அதாவது ஒரு 30 நிமிடத்திலிருந்து ஒரு மணி நேரத்திற்குள்ளாக), **நாகை டவுன், காரைக்கால் மற்றும் வேதாரண்யம்** பகுதிகளில் ஒரு மிதமானது முதல் கனமழைக்கான வாய்ப்புகள் இருக்கக்கூடும்.
