East Wind Commences: Heavy Rain Expected Across South India (October 14, 2025 Weather Update)
Good morning! This is a comprehensive weather assessment for October 14, 2025. Please note that this is a personal weather estimation, and for official weather announcements and information, we strongly advise following the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and government notifications.
We are seeing a major shift in weather patterns across South India.
Key Meteorological Developments
The most significant recent development is the full commencement of the East wind (கிழக்கு திசை காற்று), which has started moving toward the coast. This shift in wind direction signals the setup for increased rainfall. This wind change indicates the arrival of the Northeast Monsoon wind structure.
Several atmospheric phenomena are contributing to the expected intensification of rain:
- Westerly Wind Burst (WWB): There is evidence of a WWB—indicated by a yellow color—along the equator, particularly below the Kanyakumari and Sri Lankan regions.
- Tropical Waves: The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and Equatorial Rossby Waves (ERW) are currently present (visible as dark blue areas in upper images).
- Cyclonic Circulations: An upper air cyclonic circulation is situated southeast of Sri Lanka. The support provided by the WWB is expected to strengthen this circulation, causing it to move further westward toward the Arabian Sea. Concurrently, another upper air cyclonic circulation is active in the Arabian Sea, southeast of Kerala.
- Rainfall Intensification: The combined effect of these two cyclonic circulations is anticipated to strengthen the East wind flow, leading to increased rainfall potential across many regions.
