Low-Pressure System Drive Widespread Rain Forecast for September 24, 2025
Welcome back to the latest weather estimation for September 24, 2025! This report provides a personal weather estimation (தனிப்பட்ட வாநிலையான மானம்). For official weather forecasts and information, please follow the announcements from the India Meteorological Department and government bodies.
Today's weather is being determined by two significant atmospheric events.
The Dual Weather Drivers
The two defining features influencing the climate today are:
1. Typhoon Ragasa (ரகசா): The incredibly severe and extremely intense Typhoon Ragasa is currently attempting to cross the coast in the South China Sea.
2. Low-Pressure Area: A low-pressure area (குறைந்த காற்றெழுத்த தாழ்வு பகுதி) has formed and is situated near Odisha, located between West Bengal and Odisha.
The low-pressure system near Odisha has a trough structure (தாழி அமைப்பு) extending straight up to Telangana. Additionally, an upper air circulation (வளிமண்டல மேலடுக்கு சுழற்சி) is present in the region located between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. This trough structure also stretches down to the South Andhra regions.
Forecast Focus: East and Central India
The current system has already caused cloudburst-like rain in many parts of Kolkata recently.
For today, the low-pressure system is expected to bring good rain (நல்ல ஒரு மழை) to the regions of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal. Generally, rain events are anticipated to concentrate primarily in the western parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and areas of Madhya Pradesh.
Impact on the Western Coast and Southern States (Next 24 Hours)
Due to Typhoon Ragasa, moisture-laden winds (ஈரமிகு காற்று) are being drawn through the Arabian Sea. This process is expected to bring widespread rain (பரவலான ஒரு மழைக்கு) to the Bay of Bengal region and the Western coastal areas.
Kerala is set to receive widespread moderate to heavy rain in several districts:
• Moderate to Heavy Rain: Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Pathanamthitta.
• Widespread Moderate to Heavy Rain: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
• Kodagu district (especially the Kaveri catchment area).
• Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada.
• Goa.
Internal Karnataka districts, including Bengaluru, are likely to experience cloudy conditions (மேகமூட்டத்துடன்) with light rain possible in a few areas.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
In Andhra Pradesh, rain is expected to be less frequent (மழை குறைந்தே காணப்படும்) in the Central and Southern parts, including the Rayalaseema areas. However, moderate to heavy rain may continue in North Andhra regions, specifically Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, and Rajamundry, due to convergence.
Telangana is forecast to receive moderate to heavy rain in its western regions, including:
• Khammam, Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Mulugu, Jaisankar, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Mancherial, Komaram Bheem, Adilabad, Nirmal, and Jagitial.
In Hyderabad and surrounding areas, cloudy conditions are expected, with chances for light to moderate rain.
Tamil Nadu Weather Outlook
For Tamil Nadu over the next 24 hours, surface winds (தரை காற்று) may slightly increase.
Moderate Rain: Moderate rain is widely expected in parts of Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Pudukkottai, and Sivaganga districts.
Heavy Rain Concentration: Heavy rain is anticipated in specific areas:
• Valparai, Solaiyar, and Pollachi.
• Kutralam areas of Tenkasi.
• Nagercoil and Kanyakumari.
Light Rain/Cloudy Conditions: Cloudy conditions (மேகமூட்டத்தட) with light rain in some areas are forecast for:
• Southern districts (Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Theni, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram).
• Central and Delta regions (Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Karur, Dindigul, Trichy, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal, Thiruvarur, and Thanjavur).
• Northern districts (Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpet, Villupuram, Pondicherry, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri).
Advice for Farmers
For those in districts like Tiruvannamalai who inquired about agricultural activities, the next 24 hours are considered optimal for spraying pesticides and undertaking planting/transplanting work. This is because widespread rain is expected to resume within the next 36 to 48 hours. Utilize this 24-hour window effectively.
Stay safe and stay updated!
