We're observing a persistent low-pressure area between Central Telangana, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, which is expected to stay put for the next 24 hours. Coupled with upper-air cyclonic circulations off the Oman coast and over Assam, and a trough system stretching across the peninsula, these patterns are setting the stage for some notable rainfall.
Key Rainfall Highlights for Today:
• Moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated across Maharashtra, Western Telangana, and much of Central India, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, and the Northeastern states.
• Interior parts of Maharashtra, as well as central and northern Andhra Pradesh, and widespread areas of Telangana (including Hyderabad, Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem, and Mancherial) are also likely to experience moderate to heavy downpours.
• In Karnataka, regions like Kodagu, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and most of interior North Karnataka can expect moderate to heavy rain.
• Kerala is forecast to have scattered moderate rainfall with widespread cloud cover.
For Tamil Nadu:
• Chennai and North Chennai already witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall during the late night and early morning hours of September 14.
• For the evening and night of September 14, light to moderate rain is possible across several southern districts and Delta regions, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dindigul, Madurai, Thanjavur, and Karaikal, under cloudy skies. Some northern districts like Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Villupuram may also see light to moderate rain.
Looking Ahead: While today sees varied rainfall, mark your calendars! From September 16 (Tuesday) for approximately the next week, widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated across Tamil Nadu.
